Help to Home | Queensland Housing Investment Growth Initiative
Help to Home is one of the many ways we are increasing access to safe, secure and affordable housing for Queenslanders.
We are seeking vacant properties, from the private market, to sublease to registered community housing providers.
They will manage the property and tenancy and deliver expert services to people eligible for social housing. If a community housing provider is not available in certain locations, the property may be managed by our nearest Housing Service Centre.
The 2-year arrangement provides certainty for property owners, with a guaranteed income while the lease is in place. During the lease term you will receive rent for your property, paid 3-months in advance, then quarterly while the lease is in place. Your property will be regularly inspected and returned to you in the same condition, subject to fair wear and tear and damage that the lessor can claim on insurance or is otherwise required to repair.
We are looking for single or multi-unit dwellings that are vacant, may be new to market or not previously available through private rental. This may include properties that were previously used for commercial use, such as hotels or motels or short-term, holiday or student accommodation. We will not accept properties which have had tenancies ended in order to participate in the program.
Application and evaluation process
We invited eligible community housing providers to apply to deliver social housing services from approved properties in late 2021 and have now created a panel of approved property and tenancy managers.
Property owners and their agents can nominate properties anywhere in the State until 30 June 2023.
The application process will include 2 phases:
- Expression of Interest (EOI).
- Agreement phase.
The timeframes for this process may depend on a range of factors.
We will consider applications on merit and evaluate them in the order we receive them. We may decline further assessment of the property at any point in these phases.
Contact helptohome@chde.qld.gov.au if you would like to discuss a property that is currently available.
Target cohorts and locations
Help to Home will respond to the housing need of people eligible for social housing. This may include singles and couples, through to larger family or multi-generational households.
We will consider properties across Queensland.
