For renters | Stage 2 rental law reform

Consultation has concluded

The Queensland Government is committed to working towards a better renting future for Queenslanders. The priority is to provide a strong, balanced approach that protects renters and rental property owners while improving stability in the rental market.

We’re seeking feedback about your rental experiences and views on 5 key legislative reform priorities to inform the development of Stage 2 rental law reform, including:

  • installing modifications
  • making minor personalisation changes
  • balancing privacy and access
  • improving the rental bond process
  • fairer fees and charges.

Three options are presented for each reform priority in the Options Paper (PDF, 380 KB). We’re seeking your feedback on:

  • whether these options will help to address the problems identified in each reform priority
  • how they will impact rental sector stakeholders and Queensland’s rental and broader housing market
  • what unintended consequences or adverse impacts the options may have
  • what other options or approaches government could consider taking to address the identified problems.

Your feedback will inform future policy decisions made by the Queensland Government to ensure we get rental law reforms right.

Consultation on the Stage 2 Rental Law Reform Options Paper has now closed. Find out more about rental law reform or if you need assistance please contact 13 QGOV (13 74 68).
